The Garli KMS Thunderbird Project involved the delivery of all civil works associated with the upgrade of the Mt Jowlaenga Homestead Road and Great Northern Highway intersection, improving safety, functionality, and heavy vehicle access along this key transport corridor.

The project comprised a combination of offline (greenfields) works and online works undertaken under live traffic conditions. Offline works included clearing and bulk earthworks associated with the construction of a road train acceleration lane, while online works focused on pavement upgrades within and around the existing intersection footprint. These activities required detailed staging, traffic management planning, and a strong focus on safety for both road users and the workforce.

Garli delivered a comprehensive scope of works including bulk earthworks, sealing and linemarking, drainage works, and culvert installation to support effective stormwater management and long-term pavement performance. Extensive traffic management was implemented throughout the project to maintain access and minimise disruption while safely completing works in a live highway environment.
